Soggy Bottom Round 1 at Newnham Park marked the opening race of the series and Sam’s first outing in the Expert category. Racing over a full 1.5-hour XCO format, the event was a strong test of fitness and form heading into the main season. After a steady start and a small early mistake, Sam settled into a rhythm, battled hard on the course’s brutal Cliff Climb, and enjoyed seeing familiar faces from Amped Cycles out racing on bikes we’ve worked on or helped set up. A solid ride brought second in category and third overall, making it a positive start to the season. Read More
First race of the year done. I headed to the Perranporth cyclocross race with no expectations, just a bit of fun on a new-to-me course. With snow on the forecast and a strong coastal wind, I rode my Trek Supercaliber XC bike, perfect for the stony, fast rocky sections, tight corners, and tricky hurdles. Starting at the back of the grid, I moved up to second during the race before finishing third overall, my best result so far. The course was proper fun, with off-camber sections, technical climbs, and stunning coastal views. Cyclocross is a great way to improve bike handling and fitness, and grassroots racing like this keeps the sport alive. If you want to try it, the Trek Supercaliber is an excellent choice - come see us at Amped Cycles to get started! Read More
The Stinger Duathlon marked the final race of the year for Sam Nancarrow and offered something a little different from the usual cross country MTB calendar. With a strong bike leg expected and the running still an unknown, the race was all about managing effort across both disciplines. After a solid opening run and smooth transitions, the bike proved decisive, with Sam charging through the field and setting the fastest times on all three laps to take control of the race. A brutal final off-road run lived up to the event’s name, featuring steep banks, river crossings, and heavy mud, but enough of a lead was built to hold on for the overall win. A strong way to close out the 2025 season. Read More
